How to grow passionflower from seeds?
You can find passionflower seeds in almost any flower shop these days, but you need to be able to grow a beautiful, healthy and eye-pleasing plant from them. And the whole complexity of this process is not in the care, but in the difficulty of germination and low germination of seeds. Here are a few options to help you achieve your desired result:
Softening and removal of the membrane and scarification. Scarification is a light rubbing of passiflora seeds on each side with a fine sandpaper or a nail file. Such an operation violates the integrity of the dense shell, as a result of which the seed sprouts faster. For greater softening, the scarified seeds for a day are placed in fresh juice of lemon or orange, and then planted one by one in peat tablets. If the citrus juice was not at home, you can use root for the same purpose. And peat tablets can easily be replaced with a home-made mixture of equal parts of sand, peat, humus and sheet land. Before planting, such soil is calcined in the oven at a temperature of 200 ° C for 10 minutes. Plant sprouted seeds should not be deeper than 2 cm.
Germination of seeds in hydrogen peroxide. This method allows you to monitor the entire process, but requires almost surgical sterility of the instruments and hands. We take a half-liter glass jar, fill it with distilled water and lower the seeds there. After a day, we remove those that have surfaced, and we put the drowned ones with sterile forceps in a glass with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Under the influence of peroxide, the seed coat bursts and planting material is disinfected. As soon as this happens, put the seeds in a glass jar with a solution of 100 ml of water and 50 drops of peroxide. Cork tightly and take the jar to a dark, warm place for 1-2 weeks. Do not open the lid during this period. When the seeds hatch, we again remove them with sterile tweezers and plant them in prepared cups with the above-described earthen mixture.
